President Obama's Inaugural Celebration at John Muir School

The auditorium was full of both people and excitement
on January 20th in anticipation of being part of
Barack Obama's historical inauguration.

Thanks to Mr. Rutherford and all the many other volunteers for
making this occasion such a spectacular success.

The audio/visual equipment worked perfectly
and there were snacks and drinks provided
by parents so that the event was truly special.

Farmer Jasper brought his son for the historical occasion.

Barack Obama during his inaugural speech.

As he finishes his speech the cheering begins.

Principal John takes part in John Muir's
ballroom dance to celebrate the inauguration.

Not to be outdone..... Ms. Fowler also hit the dancefloor.

Parents and students enjoy the festivities.

After working up a thirst dancing it's time
for an apple cider toast to the new president.

A hero from our John Muir community....

Under the category of unsung hero, we have Jocelyn Foreman, a parent and also an Instructional Aide at John Muir School, who recently led a drive to collect books that are not being used by BUSD anymore and send them to needy schools in Africa through an organization called PALF or Pan African Literary Foundation.

These are some photos of the day she,
along with some family and helpers,
gave the boxes full of books to the PALF representative:

Ready to go.

Jocelyn, her wonderful crew,
Becca Todd (from BUSD Library Services)
and the PALF representative,
all ready to load the boxes into his truck.

Teamwork always makes the job easier.

The books begin their journey.

One last box.

Thanks so much to you and you excellent crew of helpers for sparking this idea and then following it through to the end.

This sort of recycling is truly a win/win situation for everyone involved.

May we all find inspiration in that sort of selflessness.

HALLOWEEN October 31, 2008

Thanks to all the staff and students for
their outstanding colorful and imaginative
costumes for this Halloween, 2008.

From the new best seller The Librarian and The Pirate.
Coach Robin and Mr. Healey
caught hamming it up in the office.

Who is that masked man with a mic?

Aha!! It's Principal John.

Our favorite road, Interstate Fowler.

One of BUSD's fine music teachers, Commodore Gomez.

The friendly purple spider, Ms. Gutwirth.

Ms. Olson putting in a cameo as an angel.

The colorful Frida Kahlo as portrayed by Ms. Anderson.

The happy Grapes of Math by Ms. Hong.

Winner of the most imaginative costume award......
Mr. Thomas as a (Van Gogh) Starry Night!

Ms. Ormsby and Margie Samburg
and their well costumed class.

and last, but certainly not least,
the ever popular Cat In The Hat starring Ms. Vogel.
Thank you all.
Happy Halloween!

You're invited to write a book review.

Just click on the "Link of Interest" listed on the right - and you'll be directed to a page set up just for book reviews. See what books other students like (or dislike).
Tell everyone about that book you you loved when you read it last summer.

Everyone is welcome to write their own review.

OPEN FOR BUSINESS.....

WELCOME BACK FOR
THE 2008/2009
SCHOOL YEAR

Our Library is full of new books from the end of last year
(including lots of graphic novels etc.) as well as all of your tried and true favorites.

I look forward to sharing many of them with you just as soon
as I get done unpacking all the boxes they were in over the summer.

While we're getting settled in for another year at John Muir,
it would be great if you took this opportunity
to add a comment about a book you enjoyed this summer.

We're OPEN!!! Yay.

As of Thursday, September 11, 2008
the John Muir Library is once again
up and running and open for business.

The books are all back on the shelves.
The computers are back in place and all set to go.
All we need now are the students.

Packing up the library. (June 2008)

The picture above shows what is known
as the "Grand Canyon of Boxes".

The library looks so sad all packed up.
But now we have everything back in place
along with a new coat of paint.

The bookshelves look so lonely!

Lunchtime Book Clubs (4th and 5th grades)

We usually have a cool treat on
our last Book Club meeting day.

Thanks to all those students who
participated in the three Bookclubs.

Beach Day at John Muir (June, 2008)

The view of Beach Day from the Library.
Always one of the most fun days of the year.
Luckily the weather was perfect again.
