John Muir's 2013 Lunchtime Book Club gets under way!

We are reading Patricia McKissack's A Friendship For Today. A work of historical fiction that has many twists and turns surrounding the life of our 12 year old main character, Rosemary, in Missouri in the year 1955, as she gets ready to start sixth grade in an integrated school for the first time.
After we got done discussing separate but equal, the Cold War, polio, first impressions and various types of prejudice, the books were handed out and the first assignment was to read to page 62 for next week.

Here's some pictures of our readers getting acquainted with the story:

See you next Wednesday.

May 21, 2009 May Fair at John Muir

We didn't get any photos of the ever popular "Dunk Tank"
but we did capture a few of the many happy faces
that night at our May Fair.

As always the May Fair was a huge hit
with the John Muir Community
and this year our raffle sales exceeded all expectations.

A BIG THANK YOU......
to all those who helped
and
to all those who came and enjoyed the festivities.

We couldn't have done it without you!

March 6, 2009 Two Events In One Day......

Ivy & Bean author
Annie Barrows
visits John Muir School
March 6, 2009

Thank you Annie, for a delightful visit.

Annie speaks to the third grade students.

Annie actually lives in Berkeley,
and her daughter goes to a Berkeley Public School.

The second graders had many questions for Annie.

Annie reads Ivy & Bean really, really well.

A popular author always has to
have a marker with her for book signings.

Our guest readers,
Thank You all very much.

Ms. Ryba enjoys DEAR Day.

A Special Thank You to Marian Altman (pictured below)
for always participating in our DEAR Day celebration.
Our library is named after Marian,
who was a teacher and principal
for many years in the Berkeley School District.

It's not every day a five foot tall bee
comes into your class to read to you!
